How did I go from RN to MD?
I am officially launching my COMPREHENSIVE ebook which will guide you that is linked in my bio!
🤓 I’m the first in my family to pursue a career in healthcare and became an RN!
🤷🏻♀️ I didn’t think I was academically strong enough to pursue medical school.
💲Not to mention how cost-prohibitive tuition can be.
How did I do it?
1️⃣ Take prerequisites while working as a nurse. Not only will you be able to pay for your courses, you will gain clinical experience along the way. I took one course at a time over 3 years while working as a full time RN.
2️⃣ Took advantage of flexible community college course and online course. Make sure to email medical schools to verify if they accept credits from CC/online. You can also take a look at the AAMC website for their published information about this.
3️⃣ I went PRN and worked 1 day per week during my 6 week dedicated MCAT studies.
4️⃣ Shadowed the physicians I worked with and received strong letters of recommendation from doctors I knew the longest.
5️⃣ Volunteered abroad as an RN to help recover patients from surgery. Global health is a personal interest of mine and it definitely helps to have nursing skills to offer.
6️⃣ Completed the MCAT.
7️⃣ Worked painstakingly on my AMCAS application (primary medical school application) and personal statement. Writing is my strength and I was lucky enough to receive a tuition scholarship due to my essays.
8️⃣ Same for my secondary applications.
9️⃣ I was invited to interview at several schools but only attended 2 schools in my home state.
🔟 Accepted in my top choice!
Started medical school in 2020 and matched into diagnostic radiology in 2024. ✨
